In celebration of the International Internet Day on October 29, 2020 and pursuant to the directive of Prosecutor General Benedicto A. Malcontento to continue capacitating prosecutors through online or virtual platform amid the present global pandemic, the DOJ-NPS Special Projects Division, vice-chaired by PP Renato C. Samonte, Jr., has partnered with the the US DOJ-Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT and launched the Webinar Series on Trends on Cybercrime - A Prosecutor’s Perspective. This series was three-part webinar on challenges in prosecuting cybercrime delivered on three Fridays of October 2020 (October 9, 16, and 23), and was envisioned to be a half-day interactive webinar tackling the challenges prosecutors usually face in handling cybercrime, to wit:

Part 1: International Cooperation—Voluntary Disclosures of Data and Preservation Request;
Part 2: Law Enforcement Relating to Apple and Facebook; and
Part 3: Overview of Attribution and Digital Forensic Examination Report

A total of sixty-three (63) prosecutors from NCR, Visayas and Mindanao areas were trained on these specialized topics. The webinar series was jointly delivered by the DOJ-NPS Cybertrainers (ASP Samina Macabando-Usman, CP Giselle Marie Geronimo, SARP Robert Michael Razon, ARP Maribelle Uminga, ARP Karl Andre Salcedo, APP Julius Babalcon, APP Madonna Gay Escio, ACP Maria Clara Dela Cruz and ACP Peter Paul Tombo) and expert resource speakers from the US DOJ (Atty. Donald Calvert and Cybercrime Lab Director Ovie Carroll). 

With the rising incidence of cybercrime cases filed in our prosecution offices, the DOJ-NPS Special Projects will continue to assist prosecutors in enhancing their prosecutorial skills in combating cybercrime.
