Committed to safeguard the sanctity of Philippine sovereignty by unwaveringly upholding the Rule of Law, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” C. Remulla vowed the diligent and meticulous prosecution of the recently arrested Chinese spy.
In a joint press conference hosted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) today, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) presented the suspect to the public, along with two Filipino cohorts, wherein one of them serves as his driver and the other as passenger/assistant.
AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr. disclosed that the group led by the alleged Chinese spy conducted their espionage activities where Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites are located.
“Nakita namin na mga EDCA sites yung iba, so it’s very possible that the coordinates and the topography could be used for military purposes, military targeting purposes,” Brawner said.
Authorities also recovered the spying equipment used by the suspects which DOJ prosecutors may now treat as evidence against the suspects to establish reasonable certainty of conviction.
Meanwhile, Secretary Remulla directed prosecutors handling the case to exert the full force of the law in prosecuting the Chinese spy, including his Filipino cohorts.
“When the sovereignty of the Filipino people is endangered and placed under tremendous risk, the full force of the law must be enforced without compromise or leniency,” Secretary Remulla emphasized.
