Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” C. Remulla underscored the need to provide access to justice to the disadvantaged.
This as the Department of Justice Action Center (DOJAC) in collaboration with the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) and the Legal Aid Society spearheaded today a Katarungan Caravan at the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
Around 15 lawyers from the Legal Aid Society joined DOJAC and PAO to render legal services like drafting of requests for qualified PDLs for Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) and parole, preparation of indorsements to BuCor and other similar services.
Secretary Remulla stressed the need for access to justice, “The only way our PDLs can access justice is through this legal aid. We need to understand and address the legal needs of our PDLs.”
“This is a fundamental right that has to be given to the disadvantaged and underprivileged members of our society,” he added.
DOJAC which is under the supervision of Undersecretary Margarita N. Gutierrez, has been conducting Katarungan Caravan, bringing the services of the DOJ closer to the people.##
