4 Decades of Public Service; DOJ Action Center revels 40th Founding Anniversary with the conduct of Data Privacy Seminar

13 March 2025

In celebration of its 40th anniversary, DOJ Action Center (DOJAC) held a Data Privacy Seminar on 03 March 2025 in cooperation with the National Privacy Commission (NPC), training over 130 Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) lawyers, Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) lawyers, law school legal aid representatives, prosecutors, and law students.

The Seminar on Data Privacy Act, conducted by Deputy Privacy Commissioner of the NPC, Atty. Leandro Angelo Y. Aguirre, encapsulated the context-based intricacies and complexities of processing personal information of data subjects.

The participants of the said seminar were reminded of the impact and importance of processing personal information of data subjects as Deputy Commissioner highlighted the data life cycle.

Most of the participants in the said activity are partners of DOJAC’s free legal aid activities - PAO, IBP RSM Chapter, Legal Aid Society of the Philippines (LASP), Philippine Association of Law Schools (PALS) especially Philippine Law School (PLS) and San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSCR) College of Law, in gratitude for their tireless efforts and assistance to the DOJ’s Katarungan Caravans and jail decongestion activities.

The success of the said event reinvigorates the thrust of DOJAC’s lasting commitment, as DOJ’s frontline arm, to bringing the services of the DOJ closer to the Filipino people.

"This activity aims to draw a line between data privacy which is part of one's personal rights and the interest of the general public, creating a balance between the two in establishing an efficient justice system for all," Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" C. Remulla.
