Brother of Teves nabbed on terrorism charges

20 June 2024

The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirms the arrest of Pryde Henry Alipit Teves, a designated terrorist and the brother of former Negros Oriental congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr., by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Dumaguete City.

Teves, 51, was apprehended following his designation as a most-wanted person (MWP) at both the provincial and regional levels.

The charges against Teves stemmed from violations of The Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012, as issued by the Cebu City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 74 on 13 May 2024.

"The arrest of Pryde Henry Alipit Teves demonstrates our resolute commitment to fighting terrorism and upholding the rule of law," stated Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" C. Remulla.

This arrest is further underscored by Teves’ prior designation as a terrorist by the Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC) on 26 July 2023, through Resolution Number 43, citing his alleged involvement in killings and harassment in Negros Oriental as reasons for this designation.

"The CIDG's diligent efforts have ensured that those who threaten peace and security are brought to justice," Secretary Remulla added.

The DOJ commends the CIDG for their successful apprehension of Teves. This arrest underscores the government's commitment to upholding the law and bringing terrorism suspects to justice.

Teves' bail has been set at Php200,000.00 for his temporary liberty.
