DOJ Celebrates the 35th National Statistics Month Through Statistical Exhibit

05 November 2024

The Planning and Management Service - Evaluation and Statistics Division (PMS-ESD) spearheaded the DOJ’s celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) by hosting a Statistical Exhibit at the De Las Alas Building of the Department. The activity was formally inaugurated on 29 October 2024 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Undersecretary Jose R. Cadiz, Jr. and Assistant Secretary Randolph A. Pascasio, and was attended by representatives from the different offices of the Department.

The 35th National Statistics Month Celebration carries the theme “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation,” which underscores strong commitments and efforts to modernize the statistical system of the government through the integration of digital tools and platforms to improve the accuracy, timeliness, and accessibility of statistical data for organizational development.

In support of this initiative, the Statistical Exhibit was organized to promote and normalize the use of statistical data and infographics within the Department, especially in crafting evidence-based policy-making, performance assessment, and decision-making. The Exhibit features last year’s NSM digital art entries, and showcases the Department-wide physical accomplishments and milestones.

In his message, Undersecretary Cadiz emphasized that “[t]he exhibits, which serve as a testament of our tireless efforts, exemplify our continuing commitment to innovate our statistical authority to make more progressive and accurate statistics. Of course, the importance of comprehensive and accurate statistics cannot be overemphasized for the policymakers and government interventions rely to a great extent on statistics in crafting decisions. Statistics from data gathering plays an important role in nation-building… No less than our President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. mandated the rapid adoption of digital innovations as a major component in the delivery of public service to the people. Indeed, our government structure has to keep up with the enormous advantages of this highly innovative movement. Our PMS-ESD and DOJ as a whole are presently responding to that call.”

“In countless ways, technology has revolutionized all facets of our lives including data collection and analysis. With improved data accuracy through digital transformation, your DOJ will be able to forecast challenges and formulate data-driven policies that will realistically and positively impact our service to the people,” Assistant Secretary Pascasio added.

The Statistical Exhibit will be on display in the hallway of the DOJ Delas Alas Building from 29 October to 12 November 2024. All DOJ personnel and staff are invited to visit the exhibit during this period. This Statistical Exhibit is just one of the key activities slated for the 35th NSM. Earlier in October, the PMS-ESD also organized the Digital Arts and On-the-Spot Essay Writing Contests, which engaged employees and staff from the DOJ and its attached agencies. Winners of these contests will be recognized during the DOJ’s Closing Ceremony for the 35th NSM scheduled on 12 November 2024.
