Statement of Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II on the 31st Anniversary Celebration of the Philippine Constitution

Today, we commemorate the 31st Anniversary of the 1987 Philippine Constitution. The consitution, being the supreme law of the land, is a sacred covenant between the government and the sovereign people.

While we fully support the President's war on drugs, corruption and all other forms of crimes, we remain true to our obligation to exert all efforts in fighting the menace within the metes and bounds of the law, especially our Constitution.

The Department of Justice, the mandated government's principal law agency, continues to commit to uphold the rule of law. Together with the honorable men and women of the DOJ, we will give our utmost dedication to preserve social justice and promote human rights in accordance with our Constitution.

Let us all remember the importance of the Constitution on working together towards attaining our mission - to provide an effective, efficient and equitable administration of justice. Governance, being a two-way street, implores all of us aid our government in maintaining stability and democracy today and for the generations yet unborn.
