“Well funded and evidently without scruples!”, this is how Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II described the P100-million peso offer made to the drug inmates who testified against Senator Leila De Lima if they will recant their statements and their testimonies against the senator.

The inmates referred to above are currently incarcerated at the AFP Custodial Center in Camp Aguinaldo. They testified on the involvement of Senator De Lima on the proliferation of the drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) during the House of Representatives’ inquiry on the proliferation of the drug trade at the NBP.

“We have information that the first offer to the inmates were made yesterday afternoon. It was made by a former Senator and an incumbent congressman of the Liberal Party (LP) in the Province of Laguna. The inmates were told that they have to recant before February 25, 2017,” said Secretary Aguirre.

"The second offer was through Clarence Dongail, another Bilibid inmate incarcerated at the AFP Custodial Center this morning. In both instances, the inmates said no,” added Secretary Aguirre.

“This is tampering at the highest level. We are taking the matter very seriously and we will go after those who are responsible,” Secretary Aguirre further said.
