Statement of SOJ Vitaliano N. Aguirre II on the presentation of Gerardo ''Ding'' Santiago @ NBI

27 January 2017

Ladies and Gentlemen, good morning.

Together with the NBI under Director Dante Gierran, we present to you Mr. Gerardo Santiago. Mr. Santiago is the person mentioned in news articles as the alleged owner of GREAM Funeral homes, where the lifeless body of the Korean national Jee Ick-Joo was purportedly brought by SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel.

He returned this morning at around 6 a.m. on board Philippine Airlines Flight PR No. 119 from Pearson Airport in Toronto, Canada.

He started sending feelers for his return to my office via trusted intermediaries last week. He requested that he be secured upon his arrival.

Preliminarily, because of the threats to his life, he will be placed under the protective custody of the NBI.

The return of Mr. Santiago augurs well for our collective search for the truth behind the dastardly act committed against the person of the late Mr. Jee Ick-Joo. It is a most welcome development.

We assure the Filipino people and our Korean friends that earnest efforts will be exerted to bring the real perpetrators to justice.
