Justice has prevailed once more as Prosecutor Oliva Nudo of the Dagupan City Prosecutor’s Office triumphantly lobbied for the rights of a 17-year-old student who was beaten up and raped in a dark alley in Dagupan City.
The Dagupan City, Pangasinan Regional Trial Court found accused Romnick Samson guilty beyond reasonable doubt for raping the hapless minor and issued a 10-page decision sentencing him to reclusion perpetua and pay a total of P 120,000.00 in civil, moral and exemplary damage.
Samson cornered the girl, poked a gun on her, announced a hold-up, and covered her mouth as he dragged her into a dark alley where he repeatedly hit her each time she struggled until she was rendered unconscious and he was then able to violate the child. She regained consciousness partly naked, bleeding from her private part and with fractured ribs. Despite threats on her life by the assailant, she sought for help and was brought to the hospital where medico-legal reports confirmed her ordeal.
In Lingayen, Pangasinan, the DOJ ensured that the rights of the innocent remain protected as Lingayen, Pangasinan RTC Branch 68 found Angelo B. Cabansag guilty beyond reasonable doubt of statutory rape by sexual assault.
The six-year-old victim was playing in front of the house of the accused when she was called and brought into his room. Because of her very young age, the victim apparently didn’t know what the accused was doing to her at that time. She reported the incident to her mother and was brought to a doctor who found that she was violated.
In a 9-page decision, Cabansag was sentenced to suffer ten (10) years of prision mayor as minimum to seventeen (17) years and four (4) months of reclusion temporal as maximum, and to pay the victim a total of P90,000.00 in damages.
