DOJ nets 7 illegal drug traffickers

Justice Secretary Emmanuel Caparas said there will be no letup in the government's, campaign against illegal drugs as he commended prosecutors for the conviction of seven drug traffickers.

In separate Decisions, different courts convicted the following for Violation of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act): Jerome Presidente, Roben Duran, Pedro Cabañas, Jr., Ranil Bentulan, Michael Sanico, Marlon Garcia and Maria Mirasol Ragay.

The Regional Trial Court of Panabo City - Branch 34 in separate decisions sentenced Presidente and Duran to life imprisonment and to pay a fine of P500,000 for selling  marijuana in buy-bust operations in 2011 and 2013. Presidente was likewise sentenced to 12 years and one day to 13 years imprisonment and a fine of P300,000 for illegal  possession of marijuana.

The Court also sentenced Cabañas to 12 years and one day to 13 years imprisonment and a fine of P300,000 for illegal possession of shabu and life imprisonment and a fine of P500,000 for selling the illegal substance in a buy-bust operation in 2014; and Bentulan to 14 to 17 years imprisonment and a fine of P300,000 for illegal possession of marijuana.

Meanwhile, the RTC of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental - Branch 30 in separate decisions sentenced Sanico and Garcia to life imprisonment and a fine of P500,000 for selling shabu in a buy-bust operation in 2014. Additionally, the court sentenced Garcia to 12 years and one day to 14 years imprisonment and a fine of P400,000 for illegal possession of the illegal substance.

The court also sentenced Ragay to life imprisonment and a fine of P500,000 for the illegal sale of marijuana in a buy-bust operation in 2014 and life imprisonment and a fine of P500,000 for illegal possession of marijuana.
