Reacting to the Resolution filed by Senators Koko Pimentel III and Risa Hontiveros urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to withdraw immediately the remaining charges against detained former Senator Leila M. De Lima, and to release her from her unjust and arbitrary detention, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla declared that the matter is already within the jurisdiction of the Muntinlupa Trial Court, which has the sole power and authority to act on the pending case against the former senator.

The Resolution was filed in light of the recent recantations of key witnesses in the drug cases against De Lima.  Based on records, Rafael Ragos, a defense witness has not been presented before the Muntinlupa Court.  Hence, the Department will rely on the sound discretion of the Court on the appreciation of the alleged evidence.
